ISKCON Sends ₹100 Crore Defamation Notice To Maneka Gandhi

After accusing ISKCON of selling cows to butchers, MP Maneka Gandhi is now facing difficulties. ISKCON has sent a defamation notice of ₹100 crore rupees to the leader.

Radharaman Das, the Vice President of ISKCON Kolkata, said, “Maneka Gandhi’s comment is very unfortunate. Our devotees all over the world are deeply hurt.

We are taking legal action against her for a defamation claim of 100 crore rupees; we have sent her a notice today.”

He said, “How can an MP, who was once a central minister, make such false statements against such a large society without any evidence?”

The case began in November 2022 when a woman named Sangita left an injured foreign calf at the ISKCON goshala (cow shelter).

The calf was suffering from a contagious disease, so the goshala took care of it for 15 days. When the calf recovered, the woman was asked to take it back, but she did not visit there again.

However, the calf disappeared from there. Afterward, the woman accused the goshala of selling the calf to a butcher. She filed a complaint with the police.

After an investigation, the police gave a clean chit to the goshala. The woman then wrote a letter to Union Minister Maneka Gandhi about this matter. Maneka Gandhi inquired about the case with Damodar Gauranga Das, the president of Anantapur ISKCON.

Regarding this matter, ISKCON headquarters demanded clarification from the goshala. The goshala provided responses to all the allegations.

The goshala responded to all of Maneka Gandhi’s allegations through email. They explained that they do not keep cows in captivity, they don’t tie any of their cattles. The calf brought by Sangita was also not tied up; thus it had run away.

However, in July 2022, Maneka Gandhi sent another serious allegation to the goshala through email, mentioning ISKCON’s name in a stern manner.

In response to Maneka Gandhi’s allegations, ISKCON has stated that she has never visited the goshala. This fact was conveyed to her by local and elected representatives.

In the Anantapur ISKCON goshala, there are a total of 18 milch cows. There are also 75 calves, 72 bullocks and bulls, and 247 dry or elderly cows present here.
