Is This the Right Choice of Selections- Team India T20 World Cup Team Announcement

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Rohit Sharma led India’s side for the 2024 T20 World Cup, with a few young faces as well as experienced campaigners.

The T20 World Cup 2024 will be played in West Indies and USA in June. The coach of the Indian Cricket Team Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar had a meeting in Ahmedabad a few days back. The BCCI has selected 15 names and the ICC permits all teams time until 25th May 2024 to make any changes.

Rohit Sharma will be the captain along with Hardik Pandya as his deputy vice-captain. This decision has surprised many people. BCCI chose to continue putting its trust in Hardik Pandya, who was the captain of India in T20’s in the past matches.

Hardik has struggled on the field most of the time after his comeback following an ankle injury he suffered during the ODI World Cup. Apart from this, his sudden change of his team in IPL from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians replacing Rohit Sharma as the captain of Mumbai Indians became a piece of big news. He has failed to inspire Mumbai Indians as his all-rounder skills have deserted him on most occasions. His captaincy is nothing special as Mumbai Indians have faced a lot of defeats in the last 10 matches of this IPL. Mumbai Indians were the champions for the last 5 years but now the team is in the 9th position on the 10-team points table. This is one of the reasons for and surprising decision of Hardik Pandya as the vice-captain.

KL Rahul, who doubles up as a top batsman and wicketkeeper, was overlooked, and the former Rajasthan Royals captain Samson was preferred as he performs a similar role.

The most interesting name that was almost considered a certainty but was left among the four reserves is the finisher, Rinku Singh. Batsman Shubman Gill and fast bowlers Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmad are the other three named as reserve players. The BCCI source further told Press Trust of India (PTI) “Rinku was just unlucky”.
