Is the newly formed Indian cabinet really balanced? ADR Reports suggest otherwise

Upon the announcement of the new Cabinet Minister for the Indian government, people assumed that the new names will bring stability and make a lot of barriers will be broken if these new ministers continue to work in dedicated spirit but contrary to what people had expected earlier, these ministers might not be as related as they think.

On Wednesday, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit the reset button, people began speculating about the choice of ministers and what made Modi take such a drastic step. Amid the speculations regarding the 36 new faces in the Council of Ministers, ADR released a report that showed that as many 33 ministers that comprised the cabinet have criminal cases against them.

It is to be noted that a statutory guideline allows 81 Council of Ministers and Modi had announced the addition of 36 new faces which took the total to 78. Of these 78 ministers, 24 ministers have serious criminal records including murder, attempt to murder, and robbery. Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) provided affidavits of these ministers which were filled ahead of the election to prove their point.

Not only this, in its detailed analysis, the ADR report also showed that 90 percent of the Union Cabinet ministers are millionaires and they found out this after they submitted the affidavit declaring their assets to me worth more than Rs 1 crore. Among the extremely high asset, ministers are Jyotiraditya Scindia (over Rs 379 crore), Piyush Goyal (over Rs 95 crore), Narayan Rane (over Rs 87 crore), and Rajeev Chandrasekhar (over Rs 64 crore).

The high asset ministers are the ones who have declared their assets worth more than Rs 50 crores. The list confirmed Jyotiraditya Scindhya, who is also known as the prince of Guna district of Madhya Pradesh, to be the richest among the council of ministers.

As far as the ministers with criminal backgrounds to cases are concerned, the percentage has risen from the previous list. As per the report, there is a three percent rise in the list of cabinet ministers after Wednesday. Wealth may not have made much difference as in the earlier cabinet too, 91 percent of the ministers were millionaires but as for the criminal charges, there is a considerable increase.

Out of the newly added ministers, 21 are postgraduates while nine ministers have doctorate degrees with them. Two of the ministers have only passed class 8th and 10th while seven others have completed their schooling.

The balance a cabinet is supposed to have should be comparable to civilians and not with each other. Now when we talk about inclusivity, this cabinet might be the most inclusive in recent years but when it comes to the relatability factor with common people, they are as far as they can be and that is what is bothersome for political experts as well who will that this cabinet change was not necessary if these were ministers who were taking spots.
