IPL ((Indian Premier League) franchises have raised their concern with the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) over Mumbai Indians playing their matches at home. The 15th edition of IPL will be played in India from March to May. The final tournament will take place on May 29.
Given the Covid-19 threat, the BCCI has decided to stage all the matches in Maharashtra. Reportedly, Mumbai Indians (MI) might play 4 matches at Wankhede Stadium. Brabourne Stadium and Pune might host the team thrice.
According to Times Now, Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and DY Patil Stadium of Mumbai will host a total of 55 matches whereas Pune will host 15 matches. Reportedly, all the IPL teams are set to play four games each at the Wankhede and DY Patil Stadium.
The BCCI’s decision also means that Mumbai Indians will be the only team that will play home matches (4). However, IPL franchises did not like this decision. Reportedly, the franchisees do not have any problem with Mumbai Indians playing their matches at any other stadium other than Wankhede Stadium. The franchisees are upset because none of the other teams are getting home matches. The franchisees hope that the BCCI will look into the matter. The BCCI is yet to officially announce the fixtures of the tournament. The country last hosted a complete season of IPL in India in 2019.
The IPL Auction earlier this month was a great success. India wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan became the most expensive player in the IPL 2022 auction. Reportedly, Mumbai Indians secured his service for a whopping amount of Rs 15.25 crore. As per a report by Cricbuzz, Star has requested BCCI to consider starting IPL from March 26. Reportedly, the IPL Governing Council is scheduled to meet today to take some important decisions for the upcoming season of IPL.
