Mumbai Indians (MI) was one of the most successful teams in IPL history. But in IPL 2022 it has proved to be disappointing so far. If you’re one of IPL fans or investors, you must be very keen to know the reasons.
The team has lost 8 matches so far and now ranks at the last number in the points table. Let’s figure out why ‘Mumbai Indians’ is a flop this season, as per the IPL experts.
There have been a lot of changes in the Mumbai Indians team this season. Hardik Pandya, Kunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar, and Trent Boult, the dynamic all-rounder, are all playing for rival teams this season.
These players had already been released by MI, and other teams had purchased them at the big auction. The team is yet to find appropriate alternatives for these players.
Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, has not performed well yet this season, consequently the team is suffering a lot.
During the powerplay, he also lost his wickets. This season, he has only scored 153 runs in eight matches.
The team’s all-rounders as well as fast bowlers are currently underperforming. As of now, Jasprit Bumrah is the only hope for the Mumbai team.
Apart from him, the other fast bowlers aren’t performing well. Even Jasprit Bumrah has also only taken just five wickets in this season. He is also not upto the level as expected.
This time, Mumbai’s spin bowling appears to be particularly weak, and the absence of Rahul Chahar is affecting the team.
The team lacks senior spinners, which helps the opposition’s batsmen to score huge runs.
Lack of ‘match finishers’ is also a major concern for Mumbai Indians. Currently, Kieron Pollard is the only finisher in the team.
But Pollard also failed to do well so far. He played 8 matches and scored 115 runs only. His strike rate was just 127 which is very slow in his own standards.
Some players are missing out on opportunities as the ‘Mumbai Indians’ team is making frequent changes to their playing XI. Excessive & frequent changes aren’t good for any team.
‘Mumbai Indians’ has released many core players this season. As well as they made some big investments which didn’t result well.
The team invested 15.25 crore for Ishan Kishan. He is an opening batter along with Captain Rohit Sharma. Sadly, both of them are performing poorly this season.
As per the Experts’ opinions these are the main 7 reasons why ‘Mumbai Indians’ is a flop this season. How do you feel about the Mumbai team, let us know in the comments!
