Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has been captaining the original Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings since its establishment, has stepped down from the spot.
On Thursday, the announcement about him stepping down from the position was confirmed with the extension that all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will be heading the men in yellow.
Soon after the official announcement, fans started a trend saying ‘end of an era’. Many were taken by surprise as the team’s supporters as well as his fans were eagerly waiting to see him leading the team yet again.
The announcement was all the more shocking because there are speculations that this might be Dhoni’s last IPL, which is why his fans wanted him to lead the team from the front.
The wait for them was not far as the opening match was scheduled to be between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders but the only difference is, Jadeja will be seen donning the hat of the skipper. Needless to say that he made one of the strongest choices by passing the baton to Jadeja.
Jadeja is not an exceptional bowler but he has over the years gone on to become one of the most reliable cricketers. Be it scoring during big matches or performing during last crucial overs, he has got his hands prepared for every situation. Experts suggest that the man who is the only player to lead the side in over 200 matches in the Indian Premier League, has taken this decision in order to prepare Jadeja for the future. Not just for IPL but even for the Indian Cricket Team, Jadeja might be someone who selectors can choose to rely on in future.
