Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians have thrashed Chennai Super Kings chances in this Indian Premier League with a 10-wicket defeat.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni and co had a terrible start with three wickets down in the powerplay itself and further on the team barely saw any upward graph aside from the efforts of Sam Curran who guided the miserable team to a three digit number.
It is evident from the figures that as the matches in IPL were going forward, CSK was losing its grip on the game and with this match against Mumbai Indians on Friday, the team suffered the biggest loss in terms of wicket-loss.
As for Mumbai Indians, bowlers excelled their way on the Sharjah pitch with Trent Bout taking four wickets conceinding merely 18 runs and Jasprit Bumrah took two major wickets to dismantle the game of the boys in yellow. The bowling spell proved the hollow top order of the Chennai Super Kings was responsible for the destruction as much as the superb bowling spell of the Mumbai Indians.
The coach of the losing side Stephen Fleming felt that it was over for the team when they had lost three wickets in the playoff itself. “We were pretty stunned really. It was a terrible powerplay. To lose wickets so quickly, so frequently, the game was almost over in the powerplay. Obviously, we had a couple of young guys who had an opportunity we didn’t work out,” Fleming said during the post-match press conference.
He revealed during the time-out, the team just wanted to get some runs on the scoreboard so that CSK has half the chance left in the game.
MS Dhoni, who has been under severe criticism for his selection of the players and also his batting performance said that the team had problems from the second game itself. He also said that now many youngsters will be getting chances in the team in the upcoming matches but he will keep playing as ‘captain’s don’t run away.’ “Even when you are hurting you put a smile on your face so that the management doesn’t look like they are in panic. That is what the youngsters want and I feel the boys have done that. We have kept the dressing room like that and hopefully we can turn it around in the next three games at least for pride. We need to have a clear picture for the next year. “
