International Sign Language Day: Explore Nupur Sansthan QR App

Manoj Bhardwaj and his Nupur Sansthan have innovated a simple QR app which is capable of reducing the communication gaps for deaf people.

Today is International Sign Language Day, celebrated every year on September 23rd. On this day, we focus on supporting and preserving the unique languages and cultures of deaf people and sign language users.

Despite progress, deaf individuals often face challenges in fully participating in society. Nupur Sansthan has come up with a solution – a software that provides a free interpreter through a QR code scan.

Here’s how it works: QR codes will be placed in various locations like schools, offices, buses, and police stations.

When a deaf person scans the QR code with their device, they can instantly access a sign language interpreter via video call. This eliminates the need for a physical interpreter and doesn’t require any fees or app downloads.

Manoj Bhardwaj, the founder of Nupur Sansthan, explained that deaf individuals often struggle to communicate in crucial situations.

We know that sign language hasn’t been widely adopted by the public, despite government efforts. In emergencies, they need interpreters, which is hard to find everytime.

With this QR code scanner, a link is generated upon scanning. Clicking the link connects the user to a sign language expert via video call.

This allows the deaf person to communicate their needs, and the interpreter conveys the message to the other party.

The call is also recorded, and the location is tracked in case of emergencies, ensuring timely assistance.

Tarun Sharma, a senior deaf consultant with the organization, emphasized that while there are apps designed to assist deaf individuals, many are profit-driven.

Nupur Sansthan has been working to bridge the gap between deaf individuals and language-related services for the past two decades.

We appreciate Manoj Bhardwaj and Nupur Sansthan for creating this innovative QR code solution. If it gets implemented properly by others, it will simplify the lives of deaf people.

It’s a significant step toward reducing the communication barriers for the deaf community. This simple solution can provide specially-abled people equal access to communication and services in society.
