International Moon Day 2022: Moon Landing by Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin

NASA’s Apollo 11 had landed on the moon on 20th July 53 years ago. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first astronauts in this mission.

International Moon Day 2022: Every year, Moon Day is celebrated on 20 July. This day commemorates the day when humans first set foot on the Moon in the year 1969. 

Mankind’s first step on the Moon was described by NASA as the greatest technological achievement ever.

It celebrates the day when man first stepped on the moon and is celebrated as National Moon Day. It was the day when Apollo 11 landed on Earth’s only satellite at 20:17 on July 20, 1969.

History of International Moon Day

This day is celebrated in America to commemorate the landing on the moon by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, and America’s achievement in being the first person to land a man on the moon. 

On this day, space enthusiasts typically gather in science museums or their astronomical clubs to discuss the 1969 moon landing while gazing at celestial bodies through telescopes.

Armstrong and Aldrin spent more than 21 hours on the lunar surface at what they named Tranquility Base, before leaving to rejoin Collins in Command Module Columbia. 

After spending more than eight days in space, the trio returned to Earth on July 24 and landed in the Pacific Ocean.

Significance of International Moon Day 2022

This day is one of NASA’s biggest achievements. On July 20, American astronaut Neil Armstrong and his partner Buzz Aldrin set foot on the Moon.
