India’s women hockey team raises funds of Rs 20 lakh to aid Covid-19 families

The number of positive coronavirus cases in India reaches over 52,952, and more than 1,700 people have died according to the official data. Recently, the lockdown in India has been extended till May 17.

The Indian women hockey team has raised Rs 20 lakh aid families to battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team collected the cash through an 18-day fitness challenge, which ended on May 3 and helped in raising Rs 20, 01,130.

The fund will be utilized to provide necessities to patients in different areas, migrant workers, and poor people. The ration would be distributed via NGO named Uday Foundation, Sportstar stated.

The challenge involved the team members who planned distinctive fitness exercises that went from burpees, jumps, squats, pushups, pogo hops, etc. Daily a player gave new challenges and tagged 10 individuals on their social media and donated Rs 100 towards the fund.

Savita, Vice-Captain of the hockey team stated that “At first when we discussed this challenge with our Chief Coach and learned how funds are raised online, we couldn’t imagine that we would get such an immense response. She expressed gratitude towards Hockey India, Chief Coach Sjoerd Marijne, and to the entire support staff for supporting the initiative, official site of Hockey India.

India’s Women Hockey Team captain Rani Rampal said that the reaction we received was overwhelming. People and particularly fans of Indian hockey from all over the world participated in the challenge and added to the cause. On behalf of the Indian Women Hockey Team, Rani thanked everybody who participated and contributed towards the covid-19 aid for the needy.
