First made-in-India hydrogen fuel cell bus has been launched in Pune by the Union Minister. The bus uses hydrogen as a fuel & emits no pollution but water.
Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology stated that PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Hydrogen Vision’ is very important for India to ensure ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’.
‘AtmaNirbhar’ means affordable and easily accessible clean energy, dealing with climate change issues, and producing new entrepreneurs and more jobs.
Union Minister Singh said,
“Green hydrogen is an excellent clean energy vector that enables deep decarbonisation of difficult-to-abate emissions from the refining, fertilizer, steel, cement like industries and also from the heavy commercial transportation sector.”
It is important to note that hydrogen fuel cell trucks have lower operating costs than diesel-powered trucks, which could lead to a revolution in the nation’s freight industry.
“The 12–14% of CO2 emissions from big diesel-powered vehicles. Vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells are a great way to get rid of roadside pollutants in this industry,” he remarked.
Mr. Singh came to the conclusion that by achieving these objectives, India can transition from being a net importer of fossil fuels to a net exporter of clean hydrogen energy, giving India global leadership in the hydrogen industry by growing into a significant producer of green hydrogen and a supplier of facilities for green hydrogen.
