Journalist Danish Siddiqui, who lost his life while covering the conflict in Afghanistan in 2021, has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for feature photography for his coverage of the Covid-19 crisis in India.
The Pulitzer Prize is an award given to journalists for achievements in newspaper, magazine, and online journalism. Siddiqui and his colleagues Adnan Abidi, Sanna Irshad Mattoo and Amit Dave from the Reuters news agency won the prestigious award on Monday.
According to The Pulitzer Prizes website, they won the award for “images of Covid’s toll in India that balanced intimacy and devastation.” The judges liked their feature photography.
Siddiqui was on assignment in Afghanistan in 2021 when he died. He was killed while covering clashes between Afghan troops and the Taliban. He was the Chief Photographer for Reuters, based in India.
He also received the Pulitzer Prize earlier. He won the prestigious award in 2018 as part of the Reuters team for their coverage of the Rohingya crisis.

He graduated with a degree in economics from Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi. He did post-graduation studies in Mass Communication at the same college. He started his career as a television news correspondent. He worked as a correspondent with the India Today Group from September 2008 to January 2010. Later on, he switched to photojournalism. He joined Reuters as an intern in 2010.

As a photojournalist, Siddiqui covered a wide range of issues across the world. He had extensively covered the Afghanistan conflict, the Hong Kong protests, the Rohingya refugee crisis, the Iraq conflict, the Nepal earthquakes, and other major events in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
