India topped the medals table in four sports at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou. They finished fourth overall with a total of 107 medals – 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze. The four sports in which India excelled were archery, cricket, kabaddi, and hockey.
In archery, India won a total of nine medals, including five gold, two silver, and two bronze. Although Korea had more medals overall, India had a higher number of gold medals.
India made its cricket debut at the Asian Games and both the men’s and women’s teams won gold. The women’s team defeated Sri Lanka, while the men’s team won against Afghanistan after rain interrupted the match.
The Indian men’s team emerged as champions by defeating Japan 5-1 in the final in hockey. The women’s team lost to China in the semifinals but won the bronze medal match against Japan.
India won gold in both the men’s and women’s events in kabaddi. They defeated Iran in the men’s final and Chinese Taipei in the women’s gold medal match.
India achieved its best-ever performance at the Asian Games in the last 60 years, with a record-breaking medal tally of 107. The press media has also praised the players for their determination, spirit, and hard work. India’s success was supported by various sporting achievements.
This achievement has made the entire nation proud and inspired from the excellent performances. The Asian Games which took place in Hangzhou (China) are now closing the ceremony.

The Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, has come to an end with a colorful closing ceremony. China finished with a record 201 gold medals, while India had a historic outing and won a total of 107 medals, including 28 gold.
During the closing ceremony, the torch, flag, and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) flag were handed over to Japan, who will host the next Asian Games in 2026.
The handover ceremony was attended by the Acting President of OCA, Raja Randhir Singh, and the Governor of Aichi Prefecture, Hideaki Omura.
Japan’s national flag was waved, and Japanese artists performed a mesmerizing show. The first Asian Games Torch, first Asian Games Flag, and OCA Flag were handed over to Japan as per protocol.
Interim OCA President Raja Randhir Singh declared the 2023 Asian Games closed, and the OCA flag was officially handed over to Japan for the 2026 Asiad.
The Asian Games mascots, Chenchen, Congcong, and Lianlian, led the performances alongside hundreds of artists. The ceremony was centered around the theme of “Heart to Heart,” promoting love and respect for one another.
