The Indian Women’s Football Team is ready to shine brightly at the Asian Games. Don’t you think they equally deserve to get enough media coverage?
We can’t deny the fact that the Indian women’s football team is not getting enough coverage because most of the attention has been on the men’s team and their coach Igor Stimac as they prepared for the Asian Games.
We are not defying the Indian men’s football team, in fact we are really proud of all the different sports teams of India, including Sunil Chhetri-led Indian men’s football team.
It is true that Cricket used to be the only sport which used to drive all the attention across the nation. But now the time has changed, the current Indian government, sports ministry and most of the sports organizations have been taking interest, and working hard to encourage all other sports as well.
Thus our expectation has also increased for the Indian women’s football team. But due to some recent incidents all the media coverage has gone towards the Indian men’s football team.
This is leaving the women’s team in the background, despite being ranked higher in 11th in Asia and 61st in FIFA rankings. And let me also tell you that they ranked 18th in Asia and 99th in the world.
The current Indian women’s football team includes notable players like Pyari Xaxa, Ngangom Bala Devi, Ashalata Devi, and others. They have been training hard and preparing for the Asian Games.
The Indian women’s football team has made significant progress in recent years. They’ve quietly climbed the rankings and are ranked 11th in Asia and 61st in the world, which is better than the men’s team.
Their participation in international events like the Asian Games is essential, as it will help the nation in promoting gender equality and women’s participation in sports.
However Pyari Xaxa, a forward for the team, said that they don’t want to compare themselves to the men’s team. They are fully focused on their training and preparing for upcoming matches, like the Asian Games and tough qualifiers.

The team has faced challenges, including a lack of media coverage and competitive games, but they are determined to perform well in the tournament.
We firmly believe that the Indian women’s football team deserves the same attention and support. They have talented players, including Pyari Xaxa, and they are aiming to make their mark in the Asian Games.
We appreciate their participation as a step towards gender equality and recognition in the world of sports.
By the way, the Indian women’s football matches are scheduled for September 21 and September 24 in Group B of the Asian Games. The nation wishes them, “Best of luck in advance!”
