Indian Team Wins Gold At 4th Asia Cup Bridge Championship

Bridge India (The Indian Team) won the gold medal in the 4th Asia Cup Bridge Championship. Indian players have been rewarded with 2 gold, 1 silver & 2 bronze medals.

At the 4th Asia Cup bridge championship in Jakarta, Indonesia, the Indian senior team, which included Hemant Jalan, Badal Das, Kamal Mukherjee, Pranab Bardhan, Subrata Saha, and Sukamal Das, won the gold medal.

Against Japan, the Indian team had a commanding 119-50 lead after the first two sessions, while the latter team gave up in the third.

Jalan praised his companion Mukherjee and remarked,

“Every player must use their full abilities in this game. We were aware that if we didn’t make mistakes, our adversaries would have a hard time defeating us.

Therefore, the focus of our planning and strategy was on preventing mistakes. We were adamant about not compromising our own objectives, and I believe that putting more focus on this factor ultimately worked to our advantage.”

In the pairs competition, Asha Sharma and Puja Batra of the Indian women’s team won the gold medal, while Vasanti Shah and Bharati Dey took home the bronze.

After upsetting Chinese Taipei 118-97, the Indian mixed team advanced to the final, but lost to the Indonesian hosts and had to settle for the silver medal.

The Indian mixed team was composed of Kiran Nadar – B Satyanarayana, Himani – Rajeev Khandelwal, and Bindiya Naidoo – Priya Ranjan Sinha.

In the open team competition, India fell short to defending champion China 102-106 in the semifinals, but they made a remarkable comeback to beat Japan 132-85 for the bronze medal.

The quadrennial Asia Cup bridge tournament was held for the fourth time this year. In China, this event debuted in 2010.

India, Indonesia, Australia, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, and Thailand were the participating countries in this fourth season.
