Indian shot in Qatar: Family of an Indian worker in Doha has sought financial compensation from Qatar government

The family of an Indian national working in Doha has sought monetary compensation from the Qatar government after the worker was shot by his Qatari employer in the capital city. The 35-year-old Indian worker, identified as Haider Ali, was shot in the face by his Qatari employer when he asked for a leave to visit his family in the state of Bihar. As per reports, the worker has lost his right eye in the incident.

According to Haider’s brother Afsar Ali, who lives in Bela Village in the East Champaran district of Bihar, Haider was shot on October 29. While he was going to fly to India on October 30, he was left injured due to a gunshot. An Indian Embassy official contacted Ali’s family to inform them about the incident.

Reportedly, Ali was discharged from Doha’s Hamad General Hospital on Sunday after spending three weeks in treatment. He is out of danger, as informed by the Indian Consulate in Qatar. Embassy officials and Qatari authorities are consistently communicating with Haider Ali and his family to extend all support and assistance.

Speaking to India Today, Ali’s brother Afsar said that the family is in shock after learning about the incident.

“My brother was shot point-blank by his local sponsor. His wife and the kids are in shock,” he said as quoted by media reports.

According to the family, Haider has been in Doha working as a welder for the past six years. At the same time, he was also working at his employer’s residence. He has not visited his home in Bihar since 2018.

Afsar Ali has said that Haider will be bedridden for a while and they need money for survival. Therefore, his family has demanded monetary compensation from the Qatari government over the incident.
