Indian Navy Deploys 3 Warships, Aircrafts To Secure Arabian Sea After Drone Attack

Recently, there was an incident involving a chemical tanker, MV Chem Pluto, which is relevant to our national maritime security and international relations.

MV Chem Pluto, a ship carrying crude oil, was traveling to New Mangalore port from Saudi Arabia. On its way, something alarming happened. The ship was hit by a drone about 217 nautical miles from Porbandar. This incident occurred off India’s west coast, in the Arabian Sea.

After reaching Mumbai, the Indian Navy took immediate action. They sent an explosive ordnance disposal team to examine the ship. Their findings suggest that the damage to the ship was caused by a drone attack. However, to understand fully – like where the drone came from and the specifics of the explosives used – more detailed analysis is needed.

The situation is quite serious. The Pentagon in the United States mentioned that the attack might be linked to Iran. This has led to increased concerns about the safety of commercial vessels in the Arabian Sea, especially considering recent attacks in the region.

Responding to these concerns, the Indian Navy has deployed three of its warships: INS Mormugao, INS Kochi, and INS Kolkata in the Arabian Sea. These are guided missile destroyers, powerful and well-equipped. Their job is to patrol the area and provide security. Alongside these ships, the Navy is also using P-8I aircraft for long-range surveillance.

The Navy’s actions show a strong commitment to protecting commercial vessels in these waters. This deployment is not just about safeguarding one ship but is a broader effort to maintain security in the Arabian Sea.
MV Chem Pluto itself is now in Mumbai, undergoing necessary inspections and repairs. It’s important to note that no one was hurt in this incident, which is a relief. But the attack on this ship and the Navy’s response highlight the ongoing challenges in maritime security and the importance of vigilance in these waters.
