Indian National Congress managed to execute a smooth succession plan for Parliament panels

Delhi -Congress appears to have dealt with the progression plan for Parliament panels efficiently. According to The Hindustan Times, a senior Congress leader said, the rule states that the parties have to write and request the Parliament secretariat if they desire to move a specific member from one panel to another.

As per Congress new succession plan, they have moved Senior Congress pioneer Abhishek Singhvi from the defence panel to the standing council on home affairs. Between August 2011 and April 2012, Sanghvi was heading the parliamentary committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice.

One of the senior Parliament leaders expressed that this was an intentional move to shift Sanghvi from the defence panel to home affairs. Singhvi is expected to succeed Anand Sharma, the current director of the committee on home affairs, in 2022.

In this situation, the action might be required in light of the fact that it could be challenging for Sharma to promptly return the house from Himachal Pradesh, where BJP right now rules.

His solo seat will be available to contest the Rajya Sabha elections from April, putting the BJP at a possible benefit.

In another comparative circumstance, as Ghulam Nabi Azad has resigned in March 2021, Mallikarjun Kharge and Anand Sharma have surfaced as the top competitors to take on the role of Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

Kharge has been brought by Congress into the Upper House to guarantee a steady transition. Azad, a well-known and respected face of the Congress, is still to get back to the Upper House as the J&K legislative body has been disintegrated after the state changed into two Union territories. Moreover, Congress has not had been able to find a replacement from any other provision to bring him back.

While Azad and Sharma are among the 23 letter pioneers who kept in touch with Congress president Sonia Gandhi in 2019, looking for a better opportunity in the party.
