UAE hospitals again proved how magnificent they’re for each patient, through their extraordinary UAE Healthcare facilities. Recently they cured an extremely critical patient again.
After more than nine months in the hospital, a 46-year-old female patient with serious and numerous health issues has miraculously recovered.
When Saritah Parathodi Thekkepat, an Indian expat who lives and works in Dubai, was brought to NMC Provita, she was confined to bed.

After experiencing a multifocal hemorrhagic stroke, flaccid paralysis, and severe kidney failure, she was totally dependent on others for all daily activities.
According to NMC Provita International Medical Center’s medical director, Dr. Ahmad Al Khayer, the woman was taken to the emergency room by her family with severe confusion and altered levels of awareness.
She presented with sepsis secondary to a strangulated umbilical hernia, multiple organ failure, and an abrupt stroke. She also had a very complex hospital stay.
She underwent a laparotomy, had her umbilical hernia sac and small bowel removed, and was then intubated and brought to the intensive care unit, according to him.
She would constantly sob in pain during her rehabilitation sessions from 10th October, 2021, until her release on 13th July, 2022. She used to experience stiffness in both her hands and shoulders.
With the exception of her right foot, which was completely immobile, the doctor stated that she had little to no functional movement in both her upper and lower limbs.
According to Dr. Al Khayer, the patient’s right foot’s proprioception, touch, and pain were gone, and she also had diminished sensation in her lower limbs.

“A stage 4 pressure ulcer on her sacral area hampered her out-of-bed activities, such as using a wheelchair and visiting the gym.
She appeared with sepsis, which was brought on by a strangulated umbilical hernia, as well as multi-organ failure and an abrupt stroke.”
When Thekkepat was admitted, a multidisciplinary team was put together to assist the 46-year-old patient in returning to a normal life.
This team included physical medicine but also rehabilitation doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech & language therapists, dietitians, psychologists, and nurses.
Her sensory motor function greatly improved after six days of rigorous rehabilitation, which allowed her to restore function in activities including feeding, grooming, bathing, clothing, and toileting.
She is now able to move around in bed, sit up on the edge of the bed, and use a slide board to transition from one area to another.

The rehabilitation team taught her how to propel her wheelchair on her own and manage transitions from a wheelchair to a car with the bare minimum of assistance, giving her the abilities she needed to reintegrate into her community.
In the middle of July, she got discharged from the UAE hospital and sent back to India without the requirement for dialysis after her pressure ulcer had healed.
Dr. Al Khayer added, “She will continue her at-home therapy and all the techniques she has learned.”
When compared to how she was when she was in, the patient’s condition had significantly improved by the time she was discharged.
