Indian Air Rifle Team Set ‘World Record’ At Asian Games, Clinches Gold

India has recorded a historic victory at the Asian Games in 10m Air Rifle by winning the first gold medal. The Indian team set a World Record in style.

Bharat (India) has secured its first gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. The gold was won in the 10m air rifle shooting team event, and the Indian team set a new world record in the process. The team consisted of Rudrankksh Patil, Aishwary Pratap Singh, and Divyansh Singh Panwar.

Bharat finished with a total score of 1893.7 points, surpassing the previous world record. All three members of the Indian team, Rudrankksh, Aishwary, and Divyansh, have also qualified for the individual finals in the same event.

Rudrankksh Patil, a world champion from Thane, Maharashtra, played a crucial role in securing the gold. He was ranked No. 1 in the 10m air rifle in December 2022. He had already secured an Olympic quota berth for Paris 2024 after winning gold at the 2022 ISSF World Shooting Championships.

In addition to the gold, Bharat has won three silver and three bronze medals, bringing their total medal count at the Asian Games to seven so far.

The Indian team’s performance in the 10m air rifle shooting team event was dominant, and they outscored South Korea and China to claim the top spot.

Both Rudrankksh and Aishwary also qualified for the eight-shooter finals, where they will compete for more medals.

However, Divyansh missed out on the finals due to an Asian Games rule that limits the number of finalists from a single country to two. Despite this, the Indian team’s remarkable performance in the team event secured the historic gold medal.

Rudrankksh Patil’s father expressed his son’s determination and confidence in his abilities, stating that Rudrankksh had trained extensively in the two months leading up to the Asian Games and was determined to bring home the first gold for Bharat.

There was a time when the entire nation would discuss and primarily focus on just one single sport. We can recall the outstanding performances of Indian athletes and teams.

When Major Dhyan Chand and his team were performing at their peak, hockey was trending across the country.

During Milkha Singh’s era, running races were famous significantly. Similarly, cricket received the most popularity for many years, while other sports lagged behind.

During such periods, news media primarily used to cover just one sport, and governments often provided lots of encouragement and support to just one single sport.

Consequently, attention was not given to other sports, and even after 50-60 years of the country’s independence, we were yearning for a few gold medals.

However, times have changed now! The Indian government is giving almost equal importance to every sport, resulting in Indian athletes winning medals in various sports.

The country is making its mark in different sports internationally. Although there is still much development needed in the field of sports in India.
