On Wednesday, India and the UN will be signing MoU to strengthen partnership for technology in the peacekeeping mission. The External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York, chairing a high-level meeting in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). They conversed on technology and the dire humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan as well.
Jaishankar Tweeted, “Great to meet UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres. Our conversations zeroed in on Afghanistan after the Security Council meeting yesterday.”
Jaishankar arrived in New York to address two important meetings of the UNSC on countering terrorism and UN peacekeeping mission.
India’s External Affairs Minister is scheduled to attend two important meetings on 18 and 19 August. The primary will be an open discussion on ‘Ensuring the Protectors: Technology and Peacekeeping’ while the subsequent will be on ‘Dangers to International Peace and Security brought about by Terrorist Actions’.
Both these issues are predominant for India during its UNSC sessions. The open discussion on ‘Peacekeeping’ will zero in on ‘Ensuring the Protectors’, including using current innovative devices to improve the security, health of Peacekeepers and aid the Peacekeeping Missions effectively effectuate their mandate.
As per the ANI News, Jaishankar would also attend various bilateral meetings with foreign ministers of other UN member states on this US visit.
