The Union Home Minister Amit Shah has visited Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. He has shared important information about India’s border security, particularly along the Pakistan and Bangladesh borders.
In the past nine years, since the Narendra Modi-led government came to power in 2014, about 560 kilometers of the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders have been fenced and gaps have been plugged. This is a substantial achievement, considering the challenging geography of these areas.
Now, the question arises: how long will it take to completely secure these borders? Amit Shah has given a clear timeline for this. He stated that within the next two years, India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh will be entirely secured. This means that by around 2025, we can expect these borders to be fully fortified.
But how exactly are these gaps being plugged? The borders between India and its neighbors, Pakistan and Bangladesh, stretch over several thousand kilometers. They traverse through diverse terrains, including riverine, mountainous, and marshy areas.
Erecting fences in such regions is extremely challenging. To overcome these difficulties, the Border Security Force (BSF) and other agencies are employing technical gadgets and advanced surveillance methods to check infiltration and ensure security.
But do you know the difficulty of erecting fences along these challenging terrains? The India-Pakistan International Border is about 2,290 km long, while the India-Bangladesh border extends to about 4,096 km.
These areas are marked by long stretches of riverine paths, mountains, and marshlands, making it very hard to set up physical barriers like fences. Therefore, the use of technology and vigilant border forces becomes crucial.
The government prioritized border security and development in the country. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has taken a holistic approach. Amit Shah highlighted that securing the borders is crucial for the nation’s development and prosperity.

The government has not only focused on strengthening border security but also on developing infrastructure such as roads, railways, waterways, and communication networks near the borders. This development is aligned with welfare measures for local populations living in border areas.
Through a combination of physical barriers and advanced technology, along with a focus on overall development, India is moving towards enhanced national security and prosperity.
