India To Build World’s Highest Motorable Road Near LAC, At 19,400 Feet

India is planning to build the world’s highest motorable road, which means a road that vehicles can drive on, at a very high altitude of 19,400 feet. This road will stretch for 64 kilometers and connect Likaru to Fukche in the Eastern Ladakh region.

The organization responsible for building this road, called the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), is already known for constructing the previous highest motorable road called Umling La pass, which is at 19,024 feet. This new road will break that record.

The road is strategically important because it will provide better access for the Indian military in the border area near China.

It will be a challenging project due to the extreme weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from -50°C to -20°C.

The road is being built using modern methods and strong materials that can withstand heavy snowfall in the winter. This way, once the snow melts, the road can be quickly maintained for travel.

What makes this project unique is that it is the first time in India that an all-woman road construction company is leading the effort.

The team, consisting of five women from the Indian Army’s Engineers Corps, is working in these tough conditions to construct the road.

The Director General of the Border Roads Organisation, Lt. Gen. Rajeev Chaudhary, shared his expectations about this world’s highest motorable road.

He said that the new high-altitude road will provide better access for the military and improve the lives of people in the area.

It will help the military move and respond more effectively. Additionally it’s also beneficial for local residents, it means better transportation and economic opportunities. Thus, it’s a win-win for both border security and the well-being of the people
