India Successfully Launches Aerial Threat Destroyer Akash NG

India has finally tested the new generation Akash (Akash NG) missile recently that can intercept an aerial target easily. The test was successfully carried out from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the Odisha coast DRDO sources have confirmed to the media. 

The missile is equipped with a radio frequency seeker, that successfully intercepted a high speed unmanned aerial target under the supervision of the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO).  It was tested all equipped with elements like Multifunction Radar, Command, Control Communication System and launcher participating in a perfect deployment configuration. 

According to a statement made by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, this is a great feat for India that has developed the missile in collaboration with Defence Research Development Laboratory (DRDL) and DRDO.

The test was carried out under difficult weather conditions testing its ability to be used in challenging circumstances and its performance was successfully monitored by range stations like Electro-Optical Tracking System, Radar and Telemetry. 

The weapon was been tested twice in three days, adding more brownie points to its overall performance. During the test, the missile demonstrated the high manoeuvrability required for neutralising fast and agile aerial threats, sources said. The launch was witnessed by the representatives of the Indian Air Force. Once deployed, the Akash-NG weapon system will prove to be a force multiplier for the air defence capability of the Indian Air Force.

Production agencies Bharat Electronics Limited and Bharat Dynamics Limited also participated in the trials. Secretary, Department of Defence and DRDO Chairman, Dr G Satheesh Reddy, also congratulated the teams for the successful trial of Akash NG which is capable of intercepting high speed and agile aerial threats.
