India Shows Serious Commitment To Collaborate In Joint Military Exercises With Australia, America, and Japan

The Indian Navy has now started its Mission Sagar-II to mark a join naval exercise between three nations that will support littoral states. 

With a joint exercise between India and Australia, Japan as well as the US, there is distinct strategy at play. 

Since 2007, Australia is joining the joint exercise for the first time. India is now moving towards strengthening its friendship with such nations that are looking at creating a value creation environment and support sense of peace at close quarters. 

The Phase-I of naval exercise Malabar 2020, has begun off the coast of Visakhapatnam in the Bay of Bengal. In addition, the Navy also begun Mission Sagar-II, under which INS Airavat has entered the Sudan port carrying100 tonnes of food, according to confirmed source in the Indian Navy. Under this mission, India continues to provide assistance to friendly countries during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Mission Sagar-II is a continuation of Mission Sagar that was undertaken by India in May-June 2020 in order to support nations with food and medical supplies. Some of these nations, as shared by sources in the Indian Navy include Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar and Comoros.

On its part, the Indian Navy would use its ships like Ranvijay, Shivalik, Shakti, Sukanya, and submarine Sindhuraj, while the US naval ship USS John S McCain, Royal Australian Navy ship HMAS Ballarat, and Japanese Maritime Self Defence ship JS Onami would be engaged in various kinds of joint military exercises.

The range of high-end training and preparedness exercises will include air defense and anti-submarine exercises, aviation, communications and at-sea replenishment between ships, a statement from the Australian Defence Ministry said.​​​​
