India Shatters Records With 111 Medals At Asian Para Games

What an amazing moment for India! Our athletes have really shone brightly in the Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou. This year, they’ve broken all records, bagging an astounding 111 medals.

This is the highest number of medals India has ever won in this event. The medals include 29 gold, 31 silver, and 51 bronze.

Let’s talk about some standout performances. Dilip Mahadu Gavit was one of our stars. He took home a gold medal in the Men’s 400m T47 event. His winning time was 49.48 seconds, beating competitors from Indonesia and Sri Lanka.

This achievement helped India reach a significant milestone—100 medals, a first in the history of our participation in the Asian Para Games.

If we look back, our previous best was in 2018, when India won 72 medals. That included 15 gold, 24 silver, and 33 bronze. So you can see, this year’s performance is a big leap forward.

Our para-athletes have done as well as our able-bodied athletes in the Asian Games, where India won 107 medals.

Now, where did most of our medals come from this year? Interestingly, it was chess that added a lot to our medal count.

Seven medals came from this mental sport, including two gold, one silver, and four bronze. Individual stars like Darpan Inani and Soundarya Pradhan won gold and silver, respectively, in Para Chess B1.

Rowing also got us a silver medal, thanks to Anita and Narayana Konganapalle who finished second in PR3 Mixed Double Sculls. And let’s not forget athletes like Neeraj Yadav, Tek Chand, and Pooja who added to our glory in para-athletics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself congratulated the athletes. He took to social media saying that the success was due to talent, hard work, and determination. He also said it’s a reminder that nothing is impossible for our youth.
