Blasts on various Indian embassies abroad earlier in the week and then in India on counterpart are creating a situation of unrest in the country. A certain kind of such a blast happened at the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi recently.
The event that took place on the 29th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Israel seems to have an Iranian link to it.
Sources confirm that it was a crude bomb that went off and shattered a few car windscreens.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has spoken to Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi soon after the incident. It was a call to reassure his Israeli counterpart of “fullest protection” to Israel’s mission and its diplomats in India. The small crude bomb had a letter attached to it which was addressed to the Israeli Ambassador to India.
The letter contained a threat, and described the explosion as a ‘trailer’, sources said. It also refers to two “Iranian martyrs”, Qasem Soleimani and Dr. Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, sources confirmed. Worldwide, Maj. Gen Soleimani and Fakhrizadeh are considered somewhat notorious.
The low intensity improvised device went off outside 5 Abdul Kalam Road near Jindal House at 5.05 pm, just before the top brass of the Parliament was going to attend the Beating Retreat ceremony. This included the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, and the three Service Chiefs.
Intelligence had come in to prove that there would be as possible terror attack on January 23 on Jews and Israelis from elements linked to the Islamic State. The bomb was created with local made items and therefore does not rule out the presence of local elements or even a freelancer at work.
