Three new missions in Estonia, Paraguay and the Dominican Republic will be opening shortly, confirmed reports have been shared by MEA officials. The aims is to deepen bonds with these countries and help India expand its diplomatic footprint.
This will also help develop deepen political relations, enable the growth of bilateral trade, investment and economic engagements, facilitate stronger people-to-people contacts, bolster political outreach in multilateral fora and help garner support for India’s foreign policy objectives, read an official statement.
The Center has been strategically moving into smaller nations to create its network of trade and diplomacy. This is also going to open doors for Indian to explore other nations to work abroad.
An official media statement also coined the phrase ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ while it further said that “enhancement of India’s diplomatic presence will, inter-alia, provide market access for Indian companies and bolster Indian exports of goods and services.”
There was no denying that currently many smaller nations act as conduits for India to bolster its relations with neighboring larger countries. In Estonia, for example, the Indian embassy will be stationed in the capital of Tallinn.
Further, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi will also be unveiled in the city showing commitment and solidarity towards peace and co-existence. This decision was taken by the Cabinet in December 2020.
India has huge trade interests with Paraguay which is seeking help in agricultural machinery and technology from India instead. The trade portfolio for India is already on the line of expanding, with its tariff lines going up from 400 to 2000. The Dominican Republic has recently become one of the 50 nations to show interest in homegrown Covid-19 tracing technological App CoWIN.
