Domestic Coronavirus Vaccine: Keeping his promise of making India self-reliant, PM Narendra Modi expressed his joy in announcing two homemade Corona virus vaccines would be made available to public soon.
Speaking on the virtual inauguration of the 16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention, Modi addressed the nation and expressed his joy over things that happened in the past few years, bringing India on a prominent position on the world map.
The Pravasi Bharitya Divas is an important platform to bring together Indians staying overseas. He also spoke about the grit and determination of the overseas Indians in the face of the pandemic and appreciated their effort in giving back to their community.
Moving towards the ‘Made In India’ initiative, Modi has been pushing for self -reliance in many ways. Use of renewable forms of energy is one big move under his leadership. Further, India will be going through the world’s biggest vaccination drive under his leadership.
Under the recommendations of the National Expert Group of Vaccine Administration for Covid-19, India’s healthcare staff will be administered with the vaccine on priority. Followed by this would be all support staff and armed forces personnel who have been in direct line of duty and run a stronger chance of being exposed to the virus. This will be followed by high risk areas and priority will be given to elderly people. Those wishing to be inoculated would need to self-register on the COWin application.
Two doses will be administered in a gap of 28 days. Vaccination drive is going to be rolled out January 15 onwards. Venues will be fixed according to priority groups besides outreach sites in school and community halls.
India is going to make use of Covaxin and Covishield developed by Indian pharma companies.
