Hyperloop Transport Technology:  India has plans to invest into Virgin Hyperloop technology. Niti Aayog is said to be helping to see if India can invest and create the experience of ultra high speed travel. Niti Aayog is said to formed an experts panel that is meant to explore the technological as well as commercial viability of the Virgin Hyperloop technology.

A test run has already been done in Las Vegas that engaged a 500-meter long track with a pod travelling with passengers. The passengers included an Indian inside an enclosed tube at more than a speed of 100 mph or 161 kmph.

India has plans to move into more technologically advanced modes of transport that can leave a lower carbon footprint. According to an official document shared by Niti Aayog, there are also plans to gain the first-mover advantage. Commercial viability is also being kept in mind.  An exhaustive committee intends to explore and analyze all the angles. This would comprise Niti Aayog member VK Saraswat as its Chairman as well as Adviser (Infrastructure Connectivity, Niti Aayog), Sudhendu Jyoti Sinha as its convener. The committee’s other members are Chairman and CEO of Railway Board VK Yadav, the secretaries of the ministries of Road Transport and Highways, Housing and Urban Affairs and the Maharashtra state government’s Transport Secretary. Besides, the MD of Delhi Metro, the Director of IIT-Delhi, the Chairman of Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Chairman (Technology Information) of the forecasting and assessment council are also the committee’s members.

The committee has been given a span of six months to study, access and create a conclusive report that can take India’s transport map into a whole new dimension. Further, domain experts, as well as representatives from various organizations, are likely to be invited by the committee into its meetings as it may deem fit.

The Hyperloop technology project has already tied up with Bangalore to test its effectiveness in airport transport. Once given a green signal post Niti Aayog recommendations, the model can be replicated elsewhere in India. Maharashtra is already deemed the hyperloop a public infra exercise.
