India and Japan are coming together for a special partnership. They are signing a Memorandum of Cooperation or MoC. This is like a promise on paper to work together. It will help us to make our own supply chain for semiconductors.
You might know that Semiconductors are tiny parts that go into many things we use—phones, laptops, and even cars. Right now, most of these parts come from other countries. So, India wants to be able to make them here. For this, we’re teaming up with countries like Japan.
Japan is smart at making these parts, but not as much as before. In the 1980s, half the world’s semiconductors were made in Japan. Now, it’s just 10%. Japan needs young, smart people to help. And, India has lots of them. Many semiconductor engineers around the world are Indian. So, this partnership helps Japan find the talent they need.
We have a plan to become big in the semiconductor game. Our government has even set aside $10 billion for it. This money will go into designing and making chips right here.
There are also tax benefits for companies that join in. Big companies from the U.S., like AMD and Micron, are already investing millions here.
Also, lots of new jobs are coming across the country. We’re expecting 12 lakh jobs in this field soon. With all these moves, India wants to have a backup plan.
Right now, many chips come from Taiwan, but there are worries about Taiwan’s safety. By making our own semiconductor chips, we won’t have to depend on other countries.

So, this India-Japan partnership is like a win-win for both countries. It helps both countries become stronger in making semiconductors. We get to share knowledge and skills. And together, we’ll be ready for any bumps in the road in the future.
