India leading the way: It was in 1958 when India launched itself on a global platform by becoming the second Asian country after Japan to adopt computer technology. India’s first electronic digital computer, HEC-2M, was invested at Kolkata’s ISI. This had set India on the path of development that would become pioneer internationally.
Currently, India is a leading technical education centre in Asia with a large number of students and academia inclined towards engineering and technical courses. The studies in India are also attracting vast number of foreign students.
Last two decades has seen India blare the global headlines by making an enduring mark in technology. India is using this expertise to its advantage by ensuring the technological advances are utilized to meet needs of its people. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research has launched a programme with its two components as Information Technology Facilitation Program (TIF) and the Technology Promotion Development and Utility (TPDU). The prime objective of this programme is boost endogenous development potential and use of digital resources, and provide information and data for scientific research and technological development.
India has gained international recognition and felicitations in software progress, specifically in the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) field. India also provides a conducive environment for technological development to meet national and international demands.
Capacity building in materials sector is yet to be explored to full potential for significant business opportunities. This will help in procurement of materials more efficiently to institutions which are well equipped with technical and infrastructure capacity.
Virtual information systems is another field with wide applications, combining information processing bases and knowledge networks. Indian technological skills and constant improvements and developments can be highly useful in upgrading the virtual platform of teaching and learning, the new normal.
As far as improving skills is concerned, India adopts formal and informal systems based on two policies – use of tools from new information resources to enable skills development of information professionals and experts, and knowledge management; activities related to human resource development.
