India Issues Fresh Guidelines For Foreign Arrivals; Staying At ‘Isolation Facility’ Not Compulsory For Covid Positive Passengers

The centre has revised guidelines for international passengers arriving from ‘at- risk’ countries. The Centre has decided not to make a stay at the Covid isolation facility mandatory for international travellers.

If Covid positive passengers arrive in India from any country, they will not mandatorily be managed at an isolation facility. They will be isolated as per the standard Covid-19 protocol. They will have to quarantine themselves at home by following the Covid-19 protocols. However, the rest of the provisions have remained the same in the revised guidelines.

Passengers found to be symptomatic during screening will be immediately isolated. They will be taken to a medical facility as per standard Covid-19 protocol. The revised ‘Guidelines for International Arrivals’ was released on Thursday by the centre.

Under the latest guidelines, if passengers test negative, they will have to be quarantined for 7 days and take an RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction) test on the 8th day of arrival in India. They will also be required to upload their RT-PCR tests done on the 8th day on the Air Suvidha portal.

However, passengers coming from non-at-risk countries by international flights to the country will have to do basic tests. Children under the age of 5 years will not have to undergo tests at airports. However, if any child is found to be symptomatic, they will be asked to home quarantine.

Earlier, several states imposed new restrictions to fight against the Omicron variant of covid-19. The West Bengal government announced a ban on all international flights coming from the United Kingdom (UK) to Kolkata in January due to the Omicron threat.

Meanwhile, Delhi and Mumbai continued to witness a dip in Covid-19 cases. Reportedly, the positivity rate declined to 18.04 per cent in the national capital. Mumbai also saw daily cases dipping for the third day in a row.
