India Is In Very Good Hands: First Antman Michael Douglas At IFFI 2023

Some prominent Hollywood celebrities have also joined the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, including American actor and producer Michael Douglas, a prominent figure in Hollywood. You might know him from the Antman movies of Marvel (MCU).

Michael Douglas and his family were also present at the IFFI 2023, where  he lauded Prime Minister Modi. He admired Modi’s efforts in the field of film production and finance, noting the significant investments made in recent years.

Douglas didn’t stop there. He also praised Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, for his contributions. Douglas highlighted how the Indian film industry has grown stronger and more renowned worldwide, thanks to the leadership and support it has received.

One of the touching moments at the festival involved Catherine Zeta-Jones, Douglas’s wife. She shared a personal story about her connection to India.

When she was just a toddler, an Indian doctor saved her life with a tracheotomy (windpipe for breathing). This deep personal connection explains why she feels like she’s coming home whenever she visits India.

Michael Douglas will be honored with the prestigious Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in World Cinema. He spoke highly of Satyajit Ray, calling him a “Renaissance Man” and crediting him with initiating the journey of Indian filmmaking. Douglas admired Ray’s multifaceted talents in writing, music, editing, and directing.

Douglas also spoke about the positive changes under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. He noted that the Indian film industry has seen more investment in production and financing, making it a flourishing and successful period.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, a fan of Bollywood, shared her fondness for Indian cinema. She mentioned ‘Om Shanti Om’ as one of her favorite movies and expressed her admiration for ‘The Lunchbox’. She was deeply touched by ‘The Lunchbox’, describing it as a splendid Indian movie that resonated with her as a European woman. She also told that her children have grown up watching Indian movies.
