India, Greece To Double Bilateral Trade By 2030 In IT, Tech, Defense Sectors

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Greece, India and Greece issued a joint statement agreeing to double their bilateral trade by 2030.

This is the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Greece in 40 years. Both countries expressed the need for a re-energized approach to enhancing their bilateral relationship in a time of global changes.

They also shared their vision of a free, open, and rules-based Mediterranean Sea and Indo-Pacific, in accordance with international law.

The leaders acknowledged that the EU and India have the largest democratic and free market space in the world and agreed that deepening EU-India relations would be mutually beneficial.

They expressed support for ongoing India-EU trade and investment negotiations and the early implementation of the India-EU Connectivity Partnership.

India and Greece decided to upgrade their bilateral ties to a “Strategic Partnership” and agreed to expand cooperation in political, security, and economic spheres.

They also aimed to strengthen people-to-people ties and directed officials to ensure regular dialogue in various areas, including defense, shipping, science and technology, education, culture, tourism, and agriculture.

The leaders directed efforts to double bilateral trade by 2030 and encouraged direct flights between the two countries.

Both leaders emphasized the need to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and condemned the use of terrorist proxies for cross-border terrorism.

They also discussed promoting exchanges in art and preserving ancient sites, as well as strengthening cooperation within UNESCO.

Prime Minister Modi welcomed Greece into the International Solar Alliance and looked forward to Greece’s membership in the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis expressed confidence in India’s leadership as the President of the G20 Forum and believed that India would successfully advance its goals.

The joint statement will definitely strengthen the bilateral relationship between India & Greece, and also expand cooperation of both countries in various areas.

Both countries have similar visions to enhance trade, promote cultural exchanges, combat terrorism, and work together on global initiatives such as renewable energy and disaster resilience.
