As India braces for impact from the second wave of Covid-19 from a more Indianised form of the variant, there is a marked shortage of oxygen being felt around the country. The main aim is also to prevent the quick succession of black marketeering phenomenon that was being seen in life saving Covid-19 medication as well.
In order to meet the demand of oxygen, Centre is now planning to import oxygen generation plants and containers from Germany. Government sources have confirmed that as many as 23 mobile oxygen generation plants will be air lifted from Germany, deployed in static hospitals to provide adequate oxygen to the needy.
Germany is the first on its list of friendly nations. As months pass by, there might be more that India would reach out to. It is also confirmed that the government is planning to assign the Indian Air Force to airlift such oxygen containers and equipment from friendly nations.
It has also taken the help of Indian Air Force, to airlift oxygen cylinders, regulators, and essential medicines as the national capital region faces shortage of oxygen cylinders and medicines. The added challenge is find good quality containers and the required stakeholders are being roped in for this.
There is a dearth of good quality cylinders and containers in the country, official reports have confirmed.
Under the directions of the Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, all defence establishments have been asked to set up more Covid-19 hospitals, use emergency powers and to bring in retired personnel to tackle the crisis at hand. Doctors and medical staff is being ferried via military planes and helicopters in various parts of India.
There were also discussion on roping in retired military doctors and nursing staff for assistance if they volunteer.
The minister also had suggested to utilise the services of vaccinated retired armed forces personnel to assist the civil administration and state governments to deal with the current situation.
