India Creates History With Chandrayaan-3, Pragyan Walks At Moon’s South Pole

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has made history by successfully landing the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on the Moon’s surface.

This is a significant achievement for India, as India has become the world’s first country to land a spacecraft at the lunar south pole, which was an unexplored area on the moon till date.

Only three other countries, the United States, the Soviet Union, and China, have accomplished a soft landing on the Moon before.

The Vikram lander of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft made a soft landing at 6.04 PM (IST), marking the end of the disappointment from the crash-landing of the Chandrayaan-2 lander four years ago.

After the landing, the Pragyan rover rolled out of the lander and began its 14-day science observations on the lunar surface.

This achievement is a defining moment for India and solidifies its position as a space power. It adds to India’s increasing global influence across various sectors. The fact that India succeeded in its second attempt emphasizes the resilience, commitment, and character of ISRO.

The United States government congratulated ISRO in Hindi on this historic achievement and highlighted the significance of India’s successful landing on the Moon’s southern region.

This accomplishment has profound implications for space exploration and scientific advancement, not only for India but also for global efforts to understand the mysteries of the cosmos.

The Pragyan rover, weighing 26 kg and equipped with two payloads, will now conduct a series of experiments on the lunar surface for the next 14 days.

These experiments will analyze the chemical and elemental composition of the lunar soil and rocks around the landing site.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission marks a significant milestone in lunar exploration. The rover will collect data on lunar quakes and the presence of water-ice on the Moon. It will slowly move up to 500 meters during its exploration.

ISRO shared the first picture of the Pragyan rover rolling out from the lander, and it has been described as India taking a walk on the moon.

Several countries including the United States, Russia & African countries congratulated India for its momentous achievement and its contribution to the field of space exploration.
