India Covers 600 Indian Districts With 5G Services In Less Than 200 Days

India has successfully covered 600 districts with 5G services in less than 200 days, with ‘Antyodaya’ vision. The speed of expansion is one of the fastest in the world.

India has covered 600 districts with 5G services in less than 200 days, making it one of the fastest in the world, according to Union Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan.

He credited the public policies of the central government and the vision of ‘Antyodaya’ for the country’s inclusive welfarism and development.

India has the second largest telecom network with the lowest data rate in the world and the development of indigenous 4G and 5G technologies in a short span of time has surprised the world, Chauhan added.

During the second meeting of G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG), Union MoS for Social Justice and Empowerment A Narayanaswamy emphasized the ‘Digital Antyodaya’ approach and Accessible India campaign for achieving universal accessibility for differently-abled persons in the country.

The three-day event included three thematic sessions organized by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The first session discussed high-speed mobile broadband and its impacts, including last-mile high-speed connectivity, digital services in social areas, and innovation enhancement using AI, IoT, Industry 4.0, and Society 5.0.

The second session, titled ‘Digital Inclusion – Connecting the Unconnected,’ laid emphasis on connecting all persons for digital transformation.

The third and last session, ‘Sustainable Green Digital Infrastructure: Challenges and Opportunities,’ discussed the intersection of digital infrastructure and physical infrastructure, sustainable development goals, reduced carbon footprint, renewable energy, and efficient digital transformation.

K Rajaraman, Secretary, Telecom, stressed the critical impact of connectivity on the GDP and Digital Economy. In the inaugural session, Alkesh Kumar Sharma, Secretary, MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and IT), welcomed delegates from G20 members, invited countries, international organizations, senior officials from MeitY, DoT, state government, and others, and outlined the proceedings of the event.
