India’s performance in the 2023 Asian Games has been commendable in Hangzhou. On the first day, the country won 5 medals, and on the second day, 6 medals were secured.
In the medal tally, India currently stands at the 6th position with a total of 11 medals. India has 2 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze medals. On the third day as well, Indian athletes are expected to compete for several medals.
India won its first medal on September 24th, and the winning streak continues. In the 2018 Asian Games, the Indian team had set a record by winning 80 medals with a strong contingent of 570 members.
In this edition, the Indian team aims to surpass its previous best, with a target of more than 100 medals. India’s women’s shooting team opened the medal account on September 24th in Hangzhou.
The shooting team of Meenuli Ghosh, Ramita, and Ashi Chaukse secured the second position in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Team event and won a silver medal. They achieved a total score of 1886.
The pair of Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh won a silver medal in the Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls event.
The duo of Lekh Ram and Babu Lal Yadav secured the third position and clinched a bronze medal in the Men’s Pair event in rowing.
Continuing the medal streak in rowing, India won another silver medal in the Men’s Eight event.
Shooter Ramita Jindal, who previously won a silver medal in the Women’s team event, claimed an individual silver medal in the 10m Air Rifle category with a score of 230.1
The trio of Divyansh Singh Panwar, Rudranksh Patil, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar secured India’s first gold medal in the 2023 Asian Games. They set a current world record with a score of 1893.7 in the 10m Air Rifle Team event.
Jaswinder Singh, Bhim Singh, Puneet, and Ashish Kumar secured the third position in the Men’s Coxless Four event and won a bronze medal.
India won a bronze medal in rowing. The team of Satnam, Parminder, Jakar, and Sukhmeet finished in third place in the final with a time of 3 minutes and 6.08 seconds.
Shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, who had previously secured India’s first gold medal in team competition, won a bronze medal in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle Individual event.
The team comprising Adarsh Singh, Anish Bhanwala, and Vijayveer Sidhu won a silver medal with a total score of 1718.
The Indian women’s cricket team defeated Sri Lanka in the final, securing a gold medal with a 19-run victory. This was India’s first participation in the Asian Games, and they achieved gold in their first attempt.
17-year-old sailor Neha Thakur won a silver medal. She accumulated a total of 27 points in 11 races in the ILCA4 class for girls.
