India-Bhutan Set To Connect With First Rail Link, Solar, EV Projects

Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck came to Delhi and had an important talk with our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. They both have a good bond which helps our two countries stay friends and work together in many ways. They had met before and this time they caught up on all the things our countries have been doing together since then.

One big thing they’re looking into is a railway that could connect Assam in India to Gelephu in Bhutan. Imagine being able to hop on a train to visit our friends’ next door!

That could make it easier for people and goods to move between our countries, which is good for everyone. They’re almost ready to start mapping out where the railway will go.

They didn’t just talk about trains, though. Our leaders are thinking about the future too, looking at new kinds of energy like sunlight energy (non-hydro renewables) and green ways to power our cars and bikes (eMobility). These are big steps that can help our planet and make sure we have clean air and water.

This India-Bhutan friendship is not just about big projects; it’s about helping each other in all sorts of ways, like making it easier for people from other countries to come and enjoy the beauty of both India and Bhutan.

This partnership will also improve how we trade, and help each other learn more through education and training. They’re even planning to make more room for Bhutanese students to study medicine here in Assam and also give more scholarships so more students can learn in India.

Bhutan really liked how we handled a big meeting with leaders from all over the world recently, the G20 Summit. They think we did a great job of talking about things that matter to lots of countries, not just the big ones.

So, our leaders are working hard to keep our friendship with Bhutan strong. They’re building new roads, literally and figuratively, for a brighter future for both countries. It’s a good time for India and Bhutan, with lots of new things on the horizon.
