India Asks Pakistan To Hand Over 26/11 Mastermind Hafiz Saeed

India has asked Pakistan to hand over Hafiz Saeed, who was the main person behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. He started a group called Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and India says he has done many terrorist activities, like terror attacks and supporting terror groups in Kashmir.

Our government sent a special letter to Pakistan, called a Letter of Rogatory, saying Hafiz Saeed did these things. They want Pakistan to answer this letter. Before India and Pakistan can talk about other things, India wants Pakistan to send Hafiz Saeed here.

India and Pakistan do not have an agreement to send criminals to each other (extradition treaty). So, in 2018, India sent this letter to Pakistan for help in investigating the Mumbai attacks and to get Hafiz Saeed. Pakistan has not answered yet.

India keeps asking Pakistan to finish the trial against people in Pakistan linked to the Mumbai attacks. They say the plan for the attacks was made in Pakistan, so Pakistan should provide evidence in court.

Hafiz Saeed has been in jail in Pakistan since 2019. He was punished for supporting terror through money. He is also on a United Nations list and the United States and the European Union call him a global terrorist. They have put a big reward for information about him.

However, it’s not clear if he is still in jail. Some reports say he might be free. In the past, he was arrested and released many times.

Now, Hafiz Saeed’s political group is planning to take part in Pakistan’s elections in February 2024. His son, Talha Saeed, is also called a terrorist by India and is getting ready for the elections.

India has told Pakistan to take strong steps against terror groups and their funding. However, Pakistan’s foreign ministry did not confirm receiving India’s request about Hafiz Saeed. This request is important for India and Pakistan’s relationship. For this process to happen, both countries need to work together.
