India administers one million vaccine doses against Covid-19

India started its vaccination drive on January 16 and a week later, the country has administered more than one million vaccine shots to people against Covid-19 virus. With this achievement, India has become the fastest country to cross the mark of a million doses among all the countries that have started the vaccination drive.

The health ministry announced that nearly 1.3 million vaccine shots were administered last week. Before this, among the countries who made their vaccination data available in the public domain, the United States was the country to have the fastest vaccine roll out. It launched its vaccination drive on December 14 and reached the one million mark in 10 days.

China is also among the nations to have started the drive early on but the claims of the officials that the country administered 15 million vaccine shots are not known available in the public forum.

However, what needs to be noted is that when compared to other countries, India has a more difficult job of vaccinating people especially because of its huge population. Off course, China too has the same difficulty level but it is to be known that the process of inoculation started in China way early.

Even after vaccine shots reach one million of the population, the percentage only stands at 0.08 shots per hundred people. Percentage wise, Israel is way ahead of other nations with inoculation drive, having vaccinated 38 out of every 100 people.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) released data stating that in total teh country has tested 19,01,48,024 samplesfor COVID-19 up to January 21. On the same day, 10,43,534 top priority of the entire population were also vaccinated.

Till Thursday, the country has held 18,159 vaccine sessions.  As far as the caseload of the country is concerned, Maharashtra remains the most affected state. But the rise of coronavirus cases in the country is separating every day.

Since the time India announced its vaccination drive, different countries have been closely monitoring the efficacy and safety of the vaccine and after everything was ensured, India started supplying vaccines to ‘friendly’ countries, especially the ones in need. This journey was started by supplying vaccines to Bhutan. Brazil, Seychelles and Mauritius were also provided with coronavirus vaccines manufactured in India.
