IND vs ENG Women ODI: Harmanpreet Kaur Scripts Incredible Record

Harmanpreet Kaur slammed 143 off just 111 balls & scripted an incredible record. She scored a century & led India to win the ODI series for the first time since 1999.

India under Harmanpreet Kaur made a mark by winning an ODI series in England for the first time after 1999. 

After Harmanpreet established the match with her century in the second game, the visitors made history by winning by 88 runs.

Wednesday, September 21, saw India put up their second-highest total of all time, 333/5, thanks to Harmanpreet’s blitzkrieg. 

By the end of the 40 overs, England had everything under control, but India’s late charge caused a nightmare for England’s inexperienced bowling attack.

Shafali Verma was easily defeated by Kate Cross for eight, giving England an early advantage. Smriti Mandhana and No. 3 Yastika Bhatia, though, recovered quickly. Bhatia (26) and Mandhana (40) were swiftly dismissed, giving England the advantage.

However, Harmanpreet Kaur & Harleen Deol waited until the middle to accelerate before doing so. In their 113-run stand for the 4th wicket, the pair helped India surpass 200 runs as Deol scored her first ODI fifty.

In the 40th over, Lauren Bell made the crucial breakthrough before witnessing and experiencing Harmanpreet’s frenzied attack.

India scored 121 runs in the final 10 overs, with Harmanpreet scoring 43 runs in just 11 balls to maintain his unbeaten record at 143.

In his 111-ball innings, the India captain hit four hundred-run innings and hit 18 boundaries. All of England’s bowlers suffered heavy losses; Freya Kemp, making her debut, finished with 1/82.

In their response, England got off to a terrible start, losing 3 wickets in the first eight overs. After being knocked out of the game by Harmanpreet’s direct hit, veteran opener Tammy Beaumont had a difficult time getting back to the locker room. 

The hosts had some hope thanks to Danni Wyatt (65), Alice Capsey (39), and Deepti Sharma, but Capsey’s dismissal by Sharma put an end to their 55-run partnership.

The last known batter was England captain Amy Jones, but she found it too difficult to climb the mountain alone without skilled backup at the other end. 

After 45 overs, England was eventually dismissed for 245 runs, with Renuka Singh returning with a four-wicket performance.

When India and England square off in the third and final ODI at Lords on September 24, India will attempt to beat England.
