IMD Issues Severe Rainfall Alert In Maharashtra For Next 2 Days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a severe rainfall alert for different regions of Maharashtra on Wednesday and also the next two days.

As Mumbai, the state capital, continued to experience heavy rain for a third straight day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) declared a severe rainfall alert across Maharashtra on Wednesday as well as the following two days.

An official reported that a landslide in the state left three people injured. The floods on the roads continued to cause misery for Mumbai residents.

Gujarat & Maharashtra Coast Alerts

According to IMD director general Mrutunjay Mohapatra, an off-shore trough crosses the coasts of Gujarat and Maharashtra, while low pressure is over west Madhya Pradesh, causing heavy rainfall across Maharashtra and Gujarat. 

The IMD issued an orange advisory for Thursday and Friday for north central Maharashtra, east Vidarbha, and west Vidarbha.

Districts In Maharashtra Are On Red Alert

In western Maharashtra, the Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur districts have received a red alert from the India Meteorological Department warning of severe to extremely heavy rainfall expected over the next three days. 

Meanwhile, the Panchganga river level in Kolhapur has risen and is currently just seven feet shy of the warning level as of Wednesday night. 

IMD authorities have expressed concern that if the rain persists overnight, the Panchganga and some other rivers’ water levels will crest at the warning level (39 feet) on Thursday morning.

In areas of Maharashtra where heavy to extremely heavy rainfall has been observed, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has sent out 17 teams.
