Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal: On Tuesday evening, he came outside his residence and addressed his party workers stating thathe would have gone to support the farmers in protest if he wasn’t barricaded inside his residence. I am happy that ‘Bharat Bandh’ was a success. I prayed for the protesting farmers while sitting inside my residence, Kejriwal added.
On 8th Dec the farmer’s association had announced a ‘Bharat Bandh’ as they protest against the new agricultural bills. the two controversial farm bills were passed in the lower house in Sept 2020 and later in the Upper House after a lot of chaos – the Farmer’s Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and the Farmer’s (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020. All its awaiting is a signature from President Ramnath Kovind.
Attacking the Opposition parties in the month of September, PM Narendra Modi alleged that some people are trying to mislead and incite the farmers as they believe that power is slipping out of their hands. The new farm bills are a must need for 21st century India, PM added.
After a lot of drama outside the Delhi CM residence, the AAP party workers had alleged yesterday that Kejriwal was put on house arrest by the Delhi Police. However, the Delhi Police denied the allegations.
AAP party leaders alleged that the Union home ministry ordered the Delhi Police to get Delhi municipality workers to gather and protest before the CM’s house, trying to create a pretext for his arrest. Kejriwal’s house was barricaded, and no one had permission to enter or leave the premises.
The Deputy CM Manish Sisodia stated that he was also not authorized to enter Kejriwal’s residence. However, due to the situation, all the official party meetings were canceled yesterday.
However, the Delhi Police Deputy Commissioner for North District, Alok Kumar Verma, states that the AAP party’s allegations were baseless.
