‘I hope this makes more people watch this show,’ Rasika Dugal star of Emmy winner Delhi Crime

Rasika Dugal: Delhi Crime received a lot of appreciation when it was made any after its win in the 48th International Emmy awards as the best drama series, the series and its stars are once again in the limelight for their commendable performance.

The series stars Shefali Shah and Rasika Dugal in the lead role. Dugal who is also famous for her role in Mirzapur series, talked to the Hindustan Times where she shared her views on the recent win of crime thriller. 

“I really feel the purpose of the series is probably to remind us we, as a society, allowed a crime like this to happen. When I read the script, it was sensitive, and with such a role and story like this you have to be very sure that you want to collaborate with the people you are, it can go very wrong if not told well. I was sure Richie would deal with his utmost sensitivity,” said the actress. 

While sharing her thoughts she also confirmed that the season two of this series has already been shot. 

The show, available on OTT platform Netflix, is based on the horrific 2012 Delhi gang rape case. The case is known to be the turning point in sexual offense laws in India. Dugal was cast in the role of Neeti Singh, a police officer. 

The 35-year-old said that even though she was not expecting anything much from the award show but as the winner was announced, she could only look at Richie’s face. Richie Mehta is the director of the series. Dugal credited him for dealing with the narrative in such a sensitive manner. 

In another interview to the PTI, she said that all of us felt a lot of anger in 2012 when this news broke but soon we moved on. “In some ways, the experience of working in Delhi Crime was almost cathartic for me. I feel it assuages my guilt of moving on too quickly after this crime had happened.”

Another actor Shefali Shah, who played the tough cop in the series and led the uncovering of crime also shared that she was ecstatic when the winner was announced. She feels that this is her most consuming and enriching experience ever.
