How Deep Sandhu Participation Misfired Farmer Protests In Delhi

Last updated on February 6th, 2021 at 09:00 am

Actor Deep Sandhu seems to be getting publicity for the wrong reasons as he has been pinned as the main conspirator to have instigated the violent outburst of the farmers’ protest the country recently.

A massive turnout and violence that broke out on the Red Fort on the eve of India’s 72nd Republic Day, has nothing to do with what the farmer community stands for- was the sentiment shared by farm leaders. In fact, the farmer spokespersons have blamed Majha-based Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee and Deep Sidhu for having instigated the innocent farmer community.  They have also indicated that (possibly) ‘one can see the role of central agencies’ in this whole drama.

The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Haryana leader Gurnam Singh Charuni criticised Deep Sidhu for misleading the crowd and not working in their favour. Instead, most of the farmer leaders said that they wanted things to be resolved in the peaceful manner.  It has been confirmed that the stage for a violent protest was already set on Monday night at the venue of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha.

Sources with the Samyukt Kisan Morcha have also said that ruckus had started well at the stage and some youngsters along with the so called gangster turned activist Lakha Sidhana had taken command over the stage, where his boys along with him announced that they would go on the route as planned earlier as some were talking about heading towards the Red Fort.

Further, some farm leaders have also accused the police of having encouraged the violence by putting barricades in the wrong places, that mislead the farmers to assemble in the wrong place.

Thousands of farmers continue to protest against the new agri-laws being suggested by the Centre. These comprise Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh.  According to the altered Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Centre has guaranteed that this will enable farmers to sell their produce at attractive prices, cutting the middleman or rich farmers in totality.

The whole ruckus is blowing out of proportions as the middle farmer or the rich farmer community will not be able to gain their share of MSP that they have been enjoying over decades. The whole Canada fiasco is a resultant of this one factor itself.
