How Article 370 Separated J&K From India Due To Nehru’s Mistakes?

The Supreme Court recently upheld the government’s decision to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir by abrogating Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. This means the court agrees with the government’s action of removing the special provisions that gave Jammu and Kashmir a unique status different from other states in India.

Nehru’s Mistakes Created PoK

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been very vocal about this issue. He pointed out several alleged mistakes made by Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, in relation to the Kashmir issue.

Jawahar Lal Nehru had delayed the integration of Jammu and Kashmir into India. Nehru had declared a ceasefire during the 1947 war with Pakistan, just when the Indian Army was close to gaining full control over Kashmir.

This decision prevented India from claiming the entire region of Kashmir, leading to the creation of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Amit Shah’s Accusations On Nehru

In a recent debate in the Rajya Sabha, Shah continued his criticism, particularly focusing on Nehru’s decision to take the Kashmir issue to the United Nations. Shah quoted Nehru’s own statements, suggesting that Nehru later regretted these decisions, acknowledging them as mistakes.

Shah also spoke about the role of Nehru’s decisions in necessitating Article 370 in the first place. He argued that the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was a result of Nehru’s handling of the region’s integration into India.

The ceasefire and the involvement of the United Nations complicated the situation, eventually leading to the establishment of Article 370.

Regarding Article 370, many in the BJP and others view it as detrimental to the nation’s unity. This Article created a sense of separateness and did not allow for the full integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India, hindering development and fueling separatism.

I.N.D.I. Alliance Wants To Bring Article 370 Back

In a recent development, Shah also addressed comments by a DMK MP, Tiruchi Siva, who suggested that Article 370 could be reinstated if their I.N.D.I. Alliance comes to power.

Shah questioned whether this stance was the official position of the entire alliance, termed by him as the ‘INDIA bloc’, indicating a significant divergence in political viewpoints on this issue.
