Das had performed a sketch at the John F Kennedy Centre in Washington DC. The comedian, who is also an actor, talked about various topics including the farm protest, Covid-19, and India’s response against the virus attack. Other controversial touchpoints include rape and the crackdown on comedians among other things.
After the video was released on social media, Mishra said, “We won’t allow such jesters to perform. If he tenders an apology, we are going to think over it.” He also talked about the video to PTI where he stressed such people will never be allowed to perform in the state.
He compared the comedian to congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Kamal Nath, who according to him have time and again defamed India on various platforms. Even though the comedian has apologised for the issue, he is continuing to get treated harshly.
Das had said that he did not intend to insult the country by any means. TMC leader Mahua Moitra has come out in support of him saying the context and comic measures should have been considered before the blame game. Post the controversial situation, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) also stressed that it will not be working with the actor in future. Mishra has also previously issued a 24-hour ultimatum to celebrity designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee for ‘objectionable’ portrayal of mangalsutra.
