Himachal Pradesh Elections 2022: BJP Hopes to Retain Power

The ruling BJP is banking on the achievements of its union and state governments while the Opposition Congress is promising to restore the old pension scheme.

The ruling BJP and the Congress, both of which are seeking to take power in the state of Himachal Pradesh, welcomed the release of the election timetable on Friday. 

The opposition Congress has pledged to create five lakh jobs in addition to restoring the previous pension plan for employees, while the ruling BJP is relying on the accomplishments of its federal and state governments.

On November 12, elections will be held, and on December 8, results will be tallied. For more than three decades, the hill state has seen alternating governments from the BJP and Congress. The BJP, though, is trying to break the pattern this time.

Jai Ram Thakur, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, praised the election date and asserted that there was no chance of the Congress taking over. He claimed that Congress has no future in Himachal Pradesh and is unable to take over the federal government. 

According to Thakur, the BJP will run for office with all of its resources. He said that with the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state had received many projects totalling more than Rs 10,000 crore during the last five years.

All of these projects, including the AIIMS in Bilaspur, the Atal Tunnel in Rohtang, the Bulk Drug Park, the Medical Device Park, special status, and the acceleration of four-lane construction, could only be accomplished with Modi’s support, he continued.

Lamba claimed in a video message that the election dates put a stop to the double-engine government of the ruling party’s “misuse of government equipment.” 

Priyanka Gandhi, the general secretary of the All-India Congress Committee, addressed a gathering in Solan on Friday to kick off the campaign for the Congress party, promising to present a united front.

She stated that voters will support Congress because they desire change. In the state, where the Aam Aadmi Party will also be trying its luck, a straight confrontation between the BJP and the Congress is expected to occur.

Throughout the state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently held a number of rallies. During his visit to Himachal Pradesh on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is slated to unveil the BJP’s election anthem. 

The BJP presently has 43 members in the 68-member Assembly, followed by the Congress with 22. In the Assembly, there are two Independents and one CPM MLA.

The chief ministerial face of the BJP for the elections is Jai Ram Thakur, whereas the Congress hasn’t presented any CM face yet.
